Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Victoria, Seychelles, on Saturday on a three-day State Visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across key sectors between the two countries.
The Prime Minister was accorded a warm ceremonial welcome at the Seychelles International Airport by President Patrick Herminie. Members of the Indian diaspora also gathered to greet him, reflecting the strong people-to-people ties between India and Seychelles.
Sharing his thoughts after arriving in Seychelles, PM Modi thanked President Herminie for the warm reception and reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the island nation.
“Deeply appreciate the warm welcome extended at the airport by Dr. Patrick Herminie. Seychelles is a valued maritime partner and a close friend in the Indian Ocean. Looking forward to a productive visit aimed at further strengthening our longstanding ties and enhancing cooperation for the benefit of the people of our nations,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
He also expressed gratitude to the Indian community in Seychelles for their warm welcome.
The visit coincides with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles’ National Day, where Prime Minister Modi will participate as the Guest of Honour. The year also marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.
Ahead of the visit, PM Modi described Seychelles as a valued maritime neighbour and a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, underscoring the shared commitment of both countries to the Global South and a secure, peaceful and prosperous Indian Ocean Region.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with President Patrick Herminie to review the full spectrum of India-Seychelles cooperation, including maritime security, development partnership, capacity building and defence collaboration. The two leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so. He will also interact with members of the Indian diaspora during the visit.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the visit is expected to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between India and Seychelles and open new avenues for cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
