Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday extended birthday greetings to President Droupadi Murmu.

In a post on X, Vice President Radhakrishnan said, “Heartiest birthday greetings to Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji. President Murmu ji has consistently championed the cause of the underprivileged and devoted herself to the service of the nation. Her remarkable commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare continues to motivate people across the country.”

“Her life and public journey, defined by simplicity, humility and an abiding commitment to public service, continue to inspire countless people across the nation. I pray for her long, healthy and fulfilling life as she continues to contribute to the service of the nation,” he added.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also conveyed his wishes, saying, “Warm birthday wishes to the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji. She has devoted her life to serving society and empowering people. Through her wisdom and commitment to inclusive development, social justice and the welfare of citizens, she represents the true spirit of public service. Wishing her good health, happiness and a long life in the service of the nation.”

President Murmu, the 15th President of India, is the country’s first tribal President and its second woman President. Her journey from humble beginnings to the highest constitutional office has made her a symbol of resilience and representation for marginalised communities.

Born on June 20, 1958, in Uparbeda village in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, Murmu belongs to the Santhali tribal community. She served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021 and became the first woman tribal Governor of a tribal-majority state.

Earlier, she was a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2000 to 2009 and held ministerial portfolios including Commerce and Transport, and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development. Throughout her public life, she has advocated tribal welfare, education, healthcare and the preservation of indigenous culture.

In 2007, she received the Pandit Nilakantha Das Best Legislator Award for her contribution to public life.
