Veteran singer Nitin Mukesh on Tuesday paid an emotional tribute to his father and legendary playback singer Mukesh on his 103rd birth anniversary, saying that while his absence continues to be deeply felt, his timeless music will endure for generations.
Sharing a series of throwback photographs on Instagram, Nitin Mukesh remembered his father with a heartfelt note. One of the pictures captures Mukesh affectionately kissing a young Nitin.
“A 103 years today, my beloved Papa… Just as your absence will never stop hurting your loved ones… your presence will always be felt by them on the face of this earth till eternity. ‘Jag mein reh jayenge pyaare tere bol’… your songs live on. Happy Birthday, Papa!!! Jeena isi ka naam hai!!! Till we meet once again, you and I, in a better place… in a better world… keep blessing us. Love you, Papa,” he wrote.
Born on July 22, 1923, Mukesh is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s greatest playback singers. Widely recognised as the voice of actor Raj Kapoor, he delivered several iconic songs during a career spanning more than three decades.
His most celebrated renditions include “Kabhi Kabhie Mere Dil Mein,” “Jeena Yahan Marna Yahan,” “Dost Dost Na Raha,” “Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye,” “Suhana Safar Aur Yeh Mausam Haseen,” and “Kisi Ki Muskurahaton Pe Ho Nisar.”
Mukesh died on August 27, 1976, after suffering a heart attack while on a concert tour in Detroit, United States.
Nitin Mukesh went on to establish himself as a successful playback singer, working with leading music composers such as Khayyam, R.D. Burman, Laxmikant–Pyarelal, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan, Nadeem–Shravan, and Anand–Milind during the 1980s and 1990s.
He lent his voice to several leading actors of the era, including Manoj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. Among his popular songs are “So Gaya Ye Jahan,” “Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi,” and “Wafa Na Raas Aaye Tujhe O Harjai.”
