Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed various developmental projects in the state, seeking greater support from the Centre for joint Centre-State initiatives.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed the meeting in a post on X.
CM Fadnavis said he briefed PM Modi on the progress of several development projects and requested additional support from the Union government for projects being undertaken jointly by the Centre and Maharashtra.
Describing the meeting as motivating, Fadnavis said he was grateful to the Prime Minister for his guidance on developmental issues and continued support for Maharashtra.
Seeks JICA funding for Mumbai-Vadhavan connectivity project
During his Delhi visit, Fadnavis also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and sought approval from the Finance Ministry for Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funding for the Mumbai-Vadhavan Expressway Connectivity Project, including the proposed Uttan-Virar Sea Link.
Fadnavis said FM Sitharaman assured him of positive consideration of the request and expressed gratitude for the support extended to the project.
The proposed connectivity project is among the key infrastructure initiatives for which the state government is seeking Centre’s support.
Environmental clearances discussed with Bhupender Yadav
Fadnavis also met Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav and discussed pending environmental clearances and approvals for various projects in Maharashtra.
The Chief Minister said he briefed Yadav about different stages of projects where approvals were pending and requested that the clearances be expedited to prevent delays in development works.
Fadnavis said that Yadav assured him of speedy environmental clearances for projects in Maharashtra.
During his New Delhi visit, Fadnavis also met Dharmendra Pradhan and described the interaction as a pleasant meeting with his “brother”.
