Army’s elite CIJWS conducts training programme for 83 NCC cadets in Mizoram

The Indian Army’s Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS) at Vairengte in Mizoram conducted a two-week training programme for 83 NCC cadets, providing them exposure to the professional environment and training practices of one of the Army’s premier institutions, officials said on Sunday.

The programme, held from September 21 to October 4, was designed to take the cadets beyond routine NCC training and familiarise them with military discipline, physical standards, field skills and teamwork, a defence spokesman said.

The CIJWS is an Indian Army training and research establishment specialising in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations. It is considered one of the leading institutions for such training, with military personnel from several countries undergoing specialised courses at the school.

The cadets underwent training in drill, physical fitness, firing, map reading, fieldcraft, survival skills, first aid and team-building. They were also introduced to jungle warfare, weapons, equipment and night-vision devices.

The programme included sessions on the changing nature of warfare, while visits to the Information and Research Centre, IED Hall and Technovation Hall provided the cadets exposure to technology, innovation and developments relevant to modern military training, the spokesman said.

The camp also included motivational interactions aimed at building confidence, discipline and leadership skills and fostering a spirit of service among the cadets.

“Training together in mixed groups further promoted camaraderie and a sense of collective identity amongst youth drawn from different parts of Mizoram,” the spokesman said.

The initiative is part of the CIJWS’s efforts to strengthen its engagement with the state’s youth. The Army said the programme aimed to broaden the cadets’ exposure, strengthen their association with national institutions and encourage greater participation in nation-building and national service opportunities.

The programme also reflects the school’s efforts to use its training capabilities for character building, national integration and strengthening ties between the Army and the local community, the spokesman said.
