Special Campaign 6 | Coal Ministry | scrap disposal

Coal Ministry earns Rs 61.41 crore from scrap disposal under Special Campaign 6

The Ministry of Coal and its public sector enterprises generated Rs 61.41 crore through scrap disposal under Special Campaign 6, exceeding targets for site cleaning, space clearance and disposal of discarded materials.

The Ministry said on Wednesday that a total of 17,686 metric tonnes of scrap was disposed of against a target of 10,909 metric tonnes, achieving 162 per cent of the target.

The Ministry cleaned 2,035 sites against a target of 1,565, achieving 130 per cent of the planned coverage. More than 14.84 million square feet of space was cleared, compared with the targeted 10.18 million square feet.

It also resolved all 253 identified public grievances and cleared all 52 references from the Prime Minister’s Office.

As part of efforts to streamline records management, 1,79,793 physical and electronic files were reviewed against a target of 59,593. A total of 1,70,336 files were weeded out or closed.

The campaign included initiatives to reuse discarded materials and improve workplace facilities.

NLC India Limited developed a children’s eco park at Mine-I in Neyveli, inaugurated on October 22. The park used 2.5 metric tonnes of iron scrap, 3,000 solid blocks and salvaged timber, including wood recovered from trees felled during Cyclone Thane.

Eastern Coalfields Limited converted a room previously used to store junk into a fully equipped crèche at its headquarters in Sanctoria.

In Northern Coalfields Limited’s Krishnashila Area, discarded oil drums were repainted and repurposed into a welcome installation for “Krishnakunj”.

South Eastern Coalfields Limited undertook several scrap-reuse projects. At Singhali Underground Mine in the Korba Area, workers built a working model of a paste-fill mining system to demonstrate how fly ash and industrial waste can be used to fill mined-out spaces, improve structural stability and prevent land subsidence.

Employees in the Kusmunda Area created a Tiger Hill replica featuring soldier figures and the National Flag to commemorate the armed forces’ sacrifices during Operation Vijay in the 1999 Kargil War. The Bhatgaon Area developed a “Kabaad Se Jugaad” installation centred on a miner figure to promote recycling and waste reduction.

SCCL’s Mandamarri Area used scrap to create a Shiv Ling idol and a separate Trishul artwork, reducing the accumulation of discarded materials on its premises.

The Ministry said the campaign combined administrative improvements with resource reuse, employee welfare and cleanliness initiatives in support of Swachh Bharat.
