MV Ganga Vilas cruise opened way for river tourism

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal gave information about the Ganga Vilas cruise in Rajya Sabha today.

Sonowal highlighted the journey of MV Ganga Vilas. The MV Ganga Vilas river cruise was laucnhed last year and this cruize began its journey Varanasi on 13thJanuary, 2023 covering a distance of 3,200 km through 27 river systems in India and Bangladesh, reaching Dibrugarh on the 28thFebruary, 2023. Ganga Vilas covered many places in India and Bangladesh during its journey.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the world’s longest river cruise last year. Ganga Vilas cruise journey was aimed to open up a new vista of opportunity in the river tourism.

Sonowal replied that Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, had organized 1st Incredible India International Cruise Conference 2022 at Mumbai on 14-15 May, 2022.

MV Ganga Vilas heralded a new age of river cruise tourism in India. This was a private cruise which has opened the way for river tourism in India. Govt is taking initiatives to promote river and inland water ways tourism. This river cruise was one of its kind project in India which was praised for its luxury and top facilities.
