New Delhi has made final preparations on September 6 ahead of the G20 summit, as the India prepares to showcase its position as the world’s fastest growing major economy.
New Delhi residents said the summit, and the opportunity it brings on the world stage, would be a “proud moment” for Indians, as the city was undergoing a makeover ahead of the summit set to be held at the sprawling, refurbished Pragati Maidan, a convention-cum-exhibition centre.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sought to wield leadership of the G20 grouping of the world’s most powerful economies to promote India as a destination for trade and investment, particularly as China’s economy slows.
During the September 9-10 summit, where India is expected to relegate the Ukraine issue into the background, the country says it will push for resolution on climate change, multilateral bank reforms and technological transformation.
