Indian shuttler HS Prannoy has won the Bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games. Playing in the men’s singles event, Prannoy went down to Li Shifeng of China in the men’s singles semi-finals. With this, the Indian shuttler ended India’s 41-year medal drought in the event, and joined the league of Syed Modi, who won the Bronze medal in 1982 for India.
After the win, India’s No 1 shuttler said that it was a proud moment to take home a total of 3 medals from Badminton and appreciated the effort and quality the Indian players gave in team and individual events.
India is now 4th on the medal tally with 21 Gold, 32 Silver and 35 bronze medals, totalling 88 medals. The country is still counting on as is witnessing a spectacular display of performance by its players. China, Japan and Republic of Korea occupy the 1st, 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.
Archery: India got its first medal today in archery, with the Indian women’s recurve archery team winning the bronze medal. The pair of Ankita, Simranjit and Bhajan defeated Vietnam to win bronze medal.
Wrestling:
— The Indian wrestlers are also playing for four bronze medals today in their respective categories: Aman (57 kg FS), Bajrang (65 KG FS), Sonum (62 KG WW) and Kiran (76 KG WW).
— Bajrang Punia lost against Amouzad Khalili Rahman of Iran in the semi-final of Men’s Freestyle 65Kg
Cricket: India defeated Bangladesh in the first semifinal of Men’s cricket event, achieving a target of 97 runs in just 9.2 overs. In the second semifinal, Pakistan is going head-to-head against Afghanistan. After 10 overs, Team Pakistan got 68 runs at 4 wickets down.
Meanwhile, in Hockey, the men in blue will face Japan in the final fixture at 4:00 pm IST. A win will help them secure the Paris 2024 quota.
In Kabaddi, the Indian women’s team reached the final by defeating Nepal 61–17 in the semi-finals. India is now assured of another medal.
