US President Joe Biden and the First Lady emerged unharmed on Sunday night after a car collided with an SUV that was part of the president’s motorcade.
The incident occurred as the Bidens left the Biden-Harris 2024 headquarters in rainy downtown Wilmington at 8:07 p.m. (0107 GMT) after having a meal with members of his re-election team, according to the White House press pool report.
Moments after Biden responded to a reporter’s question, a silver sedan with Delaware license plates struck what appeared to be a motorcade SUV, positioned at the intersection across from the campaign headquarters entrance, as detailed in the pool report.
Television footage captured secret service agents escorting Biden to his car after the impact.
The silver sedan, with damage to its bumper, was swiftly surrounded by security officers upon coming to a stop. Agents cornered the car and drew weapons on the driver, who raised his hands in response.
Following the incident, the Bidens returned safely to their home in Wilmington.
