Princess Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, on Friday revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
In a video message posted on her social media, the Duchess said that she underwent major abdominal surgery in January, which was successful, but the tests after the operation detected the presence of cancer.
This announcement follows weeks of speculation about Middleton’s health, as she had not been seen in public since Christmas. The Princess of Wales expressed shock at the diagnosis and thanked her husband Prince William and others for their love and support during this challenging time.
This news adds to recent shocks in the British Royal Family, as King Charles III was also diagnosed with cancer. He was found to have an unspecified type of cancer during a procedure for a benign enlarged prostate. At 75 years old, Charles has stepped back from public duties to focus on his cancer treatment.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conveyed his support to Kate Middleton, wishing her a swift recovery and stating that the entire country stands with her during this difficult period.
“My thoughts are with the Princess of Wales, Prince of Wales, the Royal Family, and especially her three children during this challenging time,” said UK PM Rishi Sunak in a statement.
