On the eve of his swearing-in as Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu confirmed on Tuesday that Amaravati will be the state capital.
The announcement was made during the NDA Legislative Party meeting in Vijayawada, where Naidu was unanimously elected as the alliance’s leader of the House. His nomination was proposed by Jana Sena Party chief K Pawan Kalyan and supported by BJP state president and newly elected MP D Purandeswari.
“Amaravati will be the capital of our state. We will aim to develop the entire state, not just a few places,” Naidu stated.
He added that Visakhapatnam will be developed as the economic capital and an advanced special city.
The NDA, comprising the TDP, JSP, and BJP in Andhra Pradesh, decisively defeated the ruling YSRCP in the simultaneous state Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
