Festive Dashain spirit unshaken in Nepal despite roadblockages from recent disasters

Despite road disruptions caused by recent natural disasters, the festive spirit of Dashain remains undeterred in Nepal as over half of Kathmandu’s population prepares to travel to their hometowns for the country’s biggest festival. Authorities are swiftly arranging alternative routes to accommodate travelers in areas where roads have been damaged.

To facilitate smooth travel, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has established passenger help desks at 14 key locations across the valley. These desks, staffed by two traffic police officers, are empowered to address issues such as overcharging, vehicle overcrowding, and the sale of fake or duplicate tickets. Personnel from the local police and community police are also deployed at these stations to assist travelers and maintain order.

So far, 13 individuals have been arrested at the Balkhu and Koteshwar bus stands for selling counterfeit tickets and overcharging passengers. Authorities are actively monitoring transport hubs to prevent further exploitation of travelers during the holiday season.

Dashain, Nepal’s most significant festival, carries deep religious and cultural importance. It is a time for family reunions, with many people making the journey back to their hometowns or villages, despite the logistical challenges posed by damaged roads. Local authorities remain committed to ensuring safe and smooth travel for all.
