External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar expressed confidence on Monday that discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, would further strengthen the close friendship between India and Qatar.
“Honoured to call on H.H. @TamimBinHamad, Amir of Qatar, on his arrival in New Delhi for a State Visit. Value his guidance on advancing our cooperation in many domains. Confident that his talks with PM @narendramodi tomorrow will deepen our close bonds of friendship,” EAM Jaishankar wrote on X.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi personally welcomed the Qatar Amir at the Air Force Station in Palam, greeting him with a warm embrace, a gesture reflecting the strong ties between the two nations.
“A special gesture for a special friend! PM Narendra Modi welcomed HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, at the airport, as he arrived in New Delhi on his second State Visit to India. The visit will further strengthen the bonds of the India-Qatar partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted on X.
Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani is on a two-day State Visit to India, his second since March 2015, at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials, and business representatives.
On Tuesday, the Amir will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhawan before engaging in discussions with PM Modi at Hyderabad House on various aspects of bilateral relations. He will also meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honour.
“India and Qatar share deep-rooted historical ties built on friendship, trust, and mutual respect. In recent years, bilateral relations have expanded across various sectors, including trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges,” stated an MEA release ahead of the Amir’s visit.
“The Indian community in Qatar, the largest expatriate group in the country, is highly valued for its contributions to Qatar’s progress and development. The visit of His Highness the Amir will provide further momentum to our growing multifaceted partnership,” the statement added.
