Rahul Gandhi leaves PMO after discussing appointment of next CBI director

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, left the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the national capital on Monday after a meeting to discuss the appointment of the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna also attended the meeting.

The selection committee for the CBI Director is chaired by the Prime Minister and includes the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India.

Currently, the post of CBI Director is held by former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Sood.

Sood, an Indian Police Service officer with nearly 37 years of experience, has served in several key positions. He has also worked as an advisor to the Government of Mauritius.

During his career, he has overseen investigations into several high-profile cases involving high-net-worth individuals, as well as matters with inter-state and international dimensions. His experience also includes work in cybercrime and information technology-related investigations.
