Heatwave conditions across Delhi-NCR are expected to moderate over the coming four days, with rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds likely to bring relief, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
According to the IMD, maximum temperatures on Tuesday are likely to hover between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius, while the national capital may witness very light rain, thunderstorms and winds gusting up to 50 kmph.
On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to ease slightly, with the maximum around 40 degrees Celsius and the minimum near 26 degrees Celsius. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are likely through the morning, afternoon and evening.
The mercury is expected to dip further on Thursday, with temperatures forecast to reach a high of about 38 degrees Celsius and a low of around 24 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.
Clear weather is likely to prevail by Friday, although temperatures will remain relatively high, hovering around 40 degrees Celsius during the day and 24 degrees Celsius at night, the IMD added.
Weather experts said the forecast rainfall and strong winds could help reduce dust and pollutant particles in the atmosphere, offering some relief from deteriorating air quality. Residents, however, have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and high-speed winds.
Amid intensifying heatwave conditions in several parts of the country, authorities have also taken precautionary measures to safeguard public health, particularly that of students. Schools in Delhi, Noida and other parts of Uttar Pradesh have been asked to adjust timings to avoid exposure to peak afternoon heat, while some states have announced summer vacations and others have opted for temporary closures.
