Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended greetings to the people of Odisha on the occasion of Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti, expressing hope that the festival strengthens the spirit of togetherness in society.
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said the occasion reflects values of devotion, harmony and seasonal renewal, while showcasing the rich cultural traditions of Odisha. He expressed hope that the new year brings peace, happiness, prosperity and new opportunities for all.
Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti marks the Odia New Year and is celebrated annually on April 14. The festival is associated with the onset of summer and is observed with traditional rituals, community gatherings and the preparation of ‘pana’, a refreshing seasonal drink.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also extended greetings on the occasion, wishing people happiness, peace and prosperity in the new year. He expressed hope that the festival inspires renewed strength to preserve and promote Odia culture and identity.
The festival symbolises seasonal transition, agricultural cycles and social harmony, and holds cultural and spiritual significance in the state. It also coincides with Hanuman Jayanti in the Odia tradition.
Extending greetings on Hanuman Jayanti, the Chief Minister prayed for the well-being of all and wished that people’s lives are filled with happiness, prosperity and peace.
Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti is widely celebrated across Odisha as a festival of renewal, devotion and community bonding, marking the beginning of a new year in the traditional solar calendar.
