The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a strong lead over the Indian National Congress (INC) in Assam, according to the latest trends released by the Election Commission of India.
As of 04:00 p.m., the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has won 9 seats and is leading in 71 constituencies, maintaining a clear edge over the Indian National Congress (INC) and other regional parties. The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), an ally of the BJP, has won 1 seat and is leading in 9 seats, followed by another ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), which is leading in 9 seats.
The Congress was trailing with 19 seats. The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), an ally of the Congress, was leading in 1 seat, while the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) were leading in 1 seat each.
Notably, Hitendra Nath Goswami of the BJP registered a decisive victory in the Jorhat Assembly constituency, defeating Gaurav Gogoi of the INC by a margin of 23,182 votes, according to official data released by the ECI.
As per the final round of counting, Goswami polled 69,439 votes, while Gogoi secured 46,257 votes, reflecting a strong performance by the BJP in the constituency and reinforcing its growing support in the state.
Polling for the Assembly elections was held on April 9 across 126 constituencies, with a voter turnout of 85.96 per cent. A total of 722 candidates, including 59 women, are in the fray.
