Dubai government employees begin benefiting today from flexible working arrangements as the 2026 edition of the “Our Flexible Summer” initiative comes into effect across public sector entities.
Launched by the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, the initiative runs from June 29 to September 10, 2026, and introduces two flexible working models designed to help government entities balance employee needs with operational requirements while maintaining service continuity.
Under the first model, employees work seven hours a day from Monday to Thursday and a reduced four-and-a-half hours on Friday. The second model allows eight working hours from Monday to Thursday, with Friday designated as a day off – effectively giving those employees a three-day weekend. Government entities may also apply additional arrangements including remote working and adjusted schedules based on operational needs.
Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, said “employee wellbeing and quality of life do not come at the expense of performance – on the contrary, they are among the key enablers of institutional success and long-term sustainability.”
The initiative is aligned with the objectives of the UAE’s Year of Family, supporting a healthy balance between professional, family and social commitments, while sustaining high standards of government service delivery. Residents are advised that government services will continue operating normally throughout the summer period, with entities expected to manage staffing in line with public needs.
