Labour Ministry launches special drive to fast-track long-pending cases; 178 DMRC claims set for single-day hearing

In a significant move aimed at reducing case backlogs and ensuring faster justice for workers, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has initiated a special drive for the expeditious disposal of long-pending labour cases across the country.

As part of the campaign, being conducted by the Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) from June 1 to August 31, 2026, the New Delhi Region has identified 178 claim cases involving the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for focused hearing and disposal.

The Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi, who is also the Authority under the Code on Wages, 2019, has issued notices to the concerned parties, directing them to appear for hearings on June 24, 2026.

In an unprecedented step to accelerate the resolution of pending disputes, all 178 cases have been scheduled for hearing on a single day. The entire day has been exclusively reserved for DMRC-related matters, reflecting the labour administration’s commitment to timely adjudication and effective grievance redressal.

The Ministry said the initiative is expected to significantly reduce pendency, provide timely relief to workers, and strengthen confidence in the labour justice delivery system. The exercise also demonstrates the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) Organisation’s focus on adopting innovative and result-oriented measures to tackle large volumes of pending cases.

The special hearing marks the beginning of a new cluster-based approach, under which similar cases are grouped together and heard collectively. Labour authorities believe this model will enable more efficient, structured, and time-bound disposal of cases while improving administrative efficiency in labour law enforcement.

The Additional General Manager (Projects) of DMRC has assured full cooperation for the successful conduct of the special drive, acknowledging its importance for workers, employers, and other stakeholders.

The Ministry said that it remains committed to strengthening industrial relations, safeguarding workers’ rights, and ensuring accessible and responsive labour administration through effective grievance redressal mechanisms.
