A seven-day Vande Mataram Camp, organised by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, commenced at Brainware University in Barasat, West Bengal, on Wednesday to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the National Song Vande Mataram.
The camp, being held from June 24 to 30, has brought together 150 young participants from Gujarat, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Organised by MY Bharat, West Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the initiative aims to promote national integration, patriotism and a deeper understanding of India’s constitutional values and cultural heritage.
The camp is centred on the theme “One Song, One Spirit, One Nation” and seeks to strengthen the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat by encouraging cultural exchange and interaction among youth from different parts of the country.
The first day featured participant registration, orientation sessions and interactions among delegates. The inauguration began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the composer of Vande Mataram. The NSS Unit of Brainware University presented a rendition of the National Song during the ceremony.
The event concluded with a thematic group dance on Vande Mataram and a collective singing of the National Song. Participants also showcased cultural performances representing their respective States and Union Territories, highlighting India’s rich cultural diversity.
During the week-long programme, participants will take part in sessions on constitutional and civic values, the historical significance of Vande Mataram, youth leadership development, cultural exchange activities and discussions on issues concerning young people.
