Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister in a continuous term, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and surpassing the record of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who served 4,398 consecutive days after the first general election.
The milestone has drawn congratulatory messages from several Union Ministers, who described it as a historic moment in India’s democratic journey and highlighted the government’s achievements over the past 12 years.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hailed the achievement as a “historic milestone” and credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for guiding the nation through numerous challenges. In a post on X, she said the principle of Antyodaya—serving the last person in society—has remained at the core of the government’s governance model.
Sitharaman said the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas” has ensured that the benefits of development reach every citizen, irrespective of their location. She added that the milestone reflects the contribution of every Indian to the nation’s progress and noted that the government has implemented several reforms and initiatives with unprecedented speed and scale.
Union Minister C.R. Patil also congratulated the Prime Minister, describing his 12-year tenure as “bemisaal” (unparalleled). He said the government’s comprehensive planning and effective implementation of welfare schemes have ensured that benefits reach people across sectors, regions and communities.
According to Patil, the administration’s focus on addressing the needs of every section of society has made the last 12 years a period of transformative governance.
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri termed the achievement a “historic landmark” in independent India’s history. In a post on X, he described Prime Minister Modi as India’s longest-serving, widely popular and globally admired elected Prime Minister.
Puri said the past 4,399 days have witnessed major transformations in areas such as economic growth, digital development, infrastructure expansion and social empowerment. He also highlighted that Prime Minister Modi became the first Prime Minister in three decades to secure a full majority in the 2014 general election and later received mandates in two subsequent elections.
The Minister further pointed to flagship initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, Smart Cities Mission, metro rail expansion, the UDAN scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, saying these programmes have contributed significantly to improving citizens’ lives and advancing the vision of a developed India by 2047.
Union Minister Manohar Lal also congratulated the Prime Minister on the occasion, describing it as a remarkable milestone. He said Prime Minister Modi’s leadership over the past 4,399 days has transformed governance and improved the lives of millions through a strong commitment to public service and the vision of Antyodaya.
The Minister said the government’s development agenda has ensured last-mile delivery of benefits and empowered citizens to actively participate in nation-building.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Lok Bhavan also extended congratulations to the Prime Minister, stating that his leadership has promoted inclusive development and placed the welfare of the common citizen at the centre of governance. In a post on X, it said India is moving towards the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047 while contributing to a global order inspired by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.
