Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday concluded his State visit to Seychelles, describing it as one marked by “substantive outcomes” that will further deepen the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “My visit to Seychelles has been filled with substantive outcomes that will boost the India-Seychelles friendship. I can confidently say that while the past fifty years of our relationship have been marked by deep trust and shared progress, the next fifty years will be defined by innovation, sustainability and shared prosperity.”
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome he received, PM Modi added, “I am happy to have joined the National Day celebrations and that too during the time when Seychelles marks 50 years of Independence. I thank President Herminie, the Government and people of Seychelles for their affection.”
During his visit, the Prime Minister participated in the National Day celebrations commemorating the Golden Jubilee of Seychelles’ Independence, reaffirming India’s commitment to its close partnership with the island nation.
PM Modi described the occasion as a tribute to the remarkable journey of the Seychellois people over the past five decades.
“Honoured to participate in the National Day celebrations of Seychelles, marking the Golden Jubilee of the nation’s Independence. The occasion was a fitting tribute to the remarkable journey of the Seychellois people over the past fifty years. India is proud to stand alongside Seychelles as a trusted friend and partner in its development journey. Our partnership continues to grow stronger with shared values and closer people-to-people ties. I am confident our friendship will grow even further in the times to come,” he said.
The Prime Minister also thanked Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie, the government and the people of Seychelles for inviting him to be part of the historic celebrations.

Highlighting the defence partnership between the two countries, PM Modi said, “Contingents from the Assam Regiment and the Indian Navy took part in the National Day celebrations of Seychelles yesterday. It was yet another reflection of the enduring friendship between India and Seychelles.”
Apart from the official engagements, the Prime Minister also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi in Seychelles, underscoring the enduring relevance of Gandhian ideals.
“Paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Peace Park in Victoria. Bapu’s ideals transcend generations, uniting people in the pursuit of peace, justice and human dignity. His thoughts continue to inspire our collective endeavour for a better world,” PM Modi said.
The visit also highlighted the deep cultural and spiritual bonds between India and Seychelles.
PM Modi offered prayers at a prominent Hindu temples in Seychelles.
“Prayed at the Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple in Victoria, the prominent Hindu temple of Seychelles. May Bhagwan Shri Ganesh bless everyone with wisdom, strength and prosperity,” he said.
The Prime Minister also appreciated “the Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam for their efforts towards the building of the Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple and for popularising different aspects of Indian culture and spirituality in Seychelles”
India and Seychelles signed key agreements covering diplomacy, digital payments, healthcare, agriculture, extradition, maritime cooperation, infrastructure financing, space cooperation and healthcare infrastructure.
PM Modi’s visit coincided with Seychelles’ 50th Independence anniversary and saw both countries reaffirm their commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. The visit further strengthened the comprehensive partnership between India and Seychelles, reflecting the close historical, strategic and people-to-people ties shared by the two nations.
