India, Poland explore new areas of cooperation in MSME sector

India and Poland on Wednesday explored ways to deepen cooperation in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector, with a focus on enterprise development, digital transformation, technology, innovation, trade and investment.

The discussions took place during a bilateral meeting at Kartavya Bhawan in New Delhi between a high-level Polish delegation led by Deputy Minister Michał Baranowski of Poland’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology and officials of India’s Ministry of MSME.

Welcoming the delegation, MSME Secretary Bharat Khera highlighted the crucial role played by India’s MSME sector in driving economic growth, employment generation and exports.

He said India has over 86 million registered MSMEs, contributing nearly 30 per cent to the country’s GDP, more than one-third of manufacturing output and nearly half of the country’s exports, while supporting the livelihoods of around 330 million people.

Khera also outlined the government’s efforts to build globally competitive and future-ready MSMEs through digital transformation, innovation, technology adoption, sustainable manufacturing and improved market access.

He briefed the Polish delegation on flagship initiatives such as the Udyam Registration Portal, the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Micro and Small Enterprises, Technology Centres and the Zero Defect Zero Effect (ZED) certification programme.

Highlighting the growing strategic partnership between the two countries, Khera said Poland is India’s largest trading and investment partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

He noted that bilateral trade has tripled since 2025 and expressed confidence that the recently concluded India-European Union Free Trade Agreement would further strengthen trade, investment and the broader strategic partnership between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Michał Baranowski appreciated India’s progress in strengthening its MSME ecosystem and expressed Poland’s interest in expanding cooperation with India.

He reaffirmed Poland’s commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and promoting greater business-to-business engagement between enterprises of both countries.

The two sides also reviewed the institutional cooperation initiated in 2024 between the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development (PARP) to promote collaboration in the MSME sector.

According to the Ministry of MSME, the meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in enterprise development, digital transformation, technology and innovation, market linkages, trade and investment, while facilitating stronger institutional partnerships and greater interaction between the MSME ecosystems of India and Poland.
