President Droupadi Murmu will embark on State visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania from July 19 to 25, with the visits aimed at strengthening India’s bilateral ties and deepening engagement with the wider Eastern European region.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the President will begin her tour with a visit to Moldova on July 20 at the invitation of President Maia Sandu. The visit will be the first-ever by an Indian President to Moldova, marking a historic milestone in bilateral relations.
During her visit, President Murmu will hold delegation-level talks with President Sandu and meet Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. She will also interact with members of the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address an India-Moldova Business Forum and meet members of the Indian community.
The MEA said India and Moldova share warm and friendly relations, and the visit is expected to elevate bilateral ties to a broader strategic partnership. Both countries see significant potential for cooperation in agriculture, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, information technology and education.
From July 21 to 22, President Murmu will undertake a State visit to North Macedonia at the invitation of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova. This will also be the first-ever visit by an Indian President to North Macedonia.
During the visit, the President will hold bilateral discussions with her counterpart and meet Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the President of the Assembly. She is also scheduled to address the Assembly of North Macedonia and the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.
According to the MEA, India and North Macedonia are keen to deepen economic cooperation in sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, information technology and IT-enabled services.
During the final leg of the tour, President Murmu will visit Romania from July 23 to 25, at the invitation of President Nicușor Dan. The visit will be the first by an Indian President to Romania in more than three decades.
During her stay, President Murmu will hold meetings with President Dan, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, President of the Senate Mircea Abrudean, and President of the Chamber of Deputies Sorin Grindeanu. She will also interact with members of the Romania-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address the India-Romania Business Forum and meet members of the Indian community.
According to the MEA Romania is a valuable partner in the European Union and with the conclusion of India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), bilateral economic partnership would strengthen further in the coming years.
The Ministry said President Murmu’s State visit to three counties reflects the importance India attaches to strengthening its bilateral ties with these countries alongwith India’s engagement with the wider Eastern European region.
