Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the 63-kilometre Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway on Monday, marking a significant addition to the state’s road infrastructure.
During the event, the leaders will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for three National Highway projects worth more than ₹4,850 crore.
Ahead of the inauguration, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari described the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway as a landmark project that will strengthen connectivity in Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the highway projects would enhance infrastructure, improve connectivity and accelerate economic growth across the state. He noted that better road networks reduce travel time, encourage investment and contribute to overall development.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who represents Lucknow in the Lok Sabha, said the expressway would reduce the travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur to around 45 to 50 minutes, making commuting more convenient for the public. He also said he would attend the convocation ceremony at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) during his visit to Lucknow.
Meanwhile, Unnao Superintendent of Police Jai Prakash Singh said comprehensive security arrangements have been made for the visit of the three dignitaries. He said adequate police personnel have been deployed along the route to ensure the smooth conduct of the programme.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway will provide faster, smoother and safer travel between the two cities while improving regional connectivity within Uttar Pradesh and with neighbouring states.
The expressway is expected to improve connectivity to Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi through the Jhansi and Agra routes, while also facilitating easier access to Bihar and Nepal via the Prayagraj-Varanasi corridor.
