Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo extended his remarkable goal-scoring record, hitting a milestone of 50 goals in 2023 during Al Nassr’s King’s Cup face-off against Al Shabab this Monday.
In the quarter-final clash, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner found the net in the 74th minute, contributing to his team’s commanding 5-2 win over Al Shabab. Ronaldo, at 38, slotted a right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner to achieve this milestone. The Riyadh-based club had a smooth victory, encountering little trouble during the match.
Following this achievement, CR7 took to his official Instagram account, expressing gratitude to his fans, teammates, and family for their unwavering support. Maintaining optimism, the Portuguese superstar hinted at more goals in the remaining year.
“Great victory and delighted to announce my 50th goal in 2023, all thanks to my teammates, fans, and family! There’s still more to come this year,” Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.
Ronaldo, hailed as one of the best footballers globally, has set numerous records that seem unbreakable. Joining Saudi club Al Nassr in January 2023, he has played 47 matches, scoring 40 goals. For the national team, he netted 10 goals in EURO Qualification 2023/2024 across nine matches.
In the current Saudi Pro League season, the Portuguese star appeared in 15 matches for Al Nassr, scoring 16 goals and contributing seven assists.
Previously, Ronaldo made a return to his childhood club, Manchester United, in 2021 after leaving Juventus. However, his second stint at United was cut short after criticizing coach Erik Ten Hag in an interview with Piers Morgan.
Upon claiming a lack of respect from Ten Hag, United terminated the 38-year-old’s contract. During his second spell at United, CR7 played 54 matches and scored 27 goals.
