Vice President Dhankhar meets Armenian delegation, discusses boosting trade and ties

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar met with Armenian National Assembly President Alen Simonyan in New Delhi on Tuesday, holding discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral trade, improving connectivity, and fostering deeper partnerships between India and Armenia.

The talks highlighted the longstanding ties between the two democracies and emphasized the importance of parliamentary exchanges in enhancing relations.

In a post on X, the Vice President said, “HE Alen Simonyan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, called on Vice-President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, at Parliament House today.

Discussions centered around the longstanding ties between the two democracies, deeply rooted in history, and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral trade and connectivity. The leaders also highlighted the role of parliamentary exchanges in further consolidating India-Armenia relations.”

Earlier in the day, the Armenian delegation also met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. During their meeting, President Murmu stressed the significance of regular parliamentary dialogue in deepening bilateral cooperation and understanding each other’s governance systems.

In a post on X, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said, “A parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Armenia, led by HE Alen Simonyan, President of the National Assembly of Armenia, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.”

President Murmu highlighted that such dialogues play a crucial role in fostering stronger partnerships between the two nations.

India and Armenia have witnessed a growing momentum in high-level engagements recently. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Armenian Ambassador Vahagn Afyan last week to discuss avenues for deepening cooperation.

Additionally, the 2nd India-Iran-Armenia Trilateral Consultations were held in New Delhi on December 12, focusing on connectivity, multilateral cooperation, and regional developments. These talks also explored enhancing trade, tourism, cultural exchanges, and strengthening people-to-people ties.
