An active Western Disturbance is expected to bring widespread rainfall and snowfall across several northern states in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system will impact Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh between February 25-27, Himachal Pradesh on February 26-27, and Uttarakhand on February 27.
In eastern India, isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms is likely on February 22-23.
Recent Weather Conditions:
Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall were observed at most places in Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. Punjab experienced light to moderate rainfall at most locations, while Gangetic West Bengal recorded rainfall at many places. Rainfall was also reported in several parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, North Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Northeast Uttar Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Assam, and Meghalaya.
Heavy Rainfall and Hailstorms:
Heavy rainfall was reported in isolated areas of Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. Hailstorms occurred in isolated locations across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, and North Interior Odisha. Gusty winds were observed in parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Punjab, and Haryana.
Thunderstorms with Lightning:
Isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning were reported in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
The IMD has advised residents and authorities in the affected regions to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during adverse weather conditions.
