Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Thursday praised the Indian Armed Forces for their precision strikes under Operation Sindoor and said that this “war is a war to end terrorism.”
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, our three forces have worked to wipe out the terrorists once and for all. Today, India has given a befitting reply to the terrorists through Operation Sindoor… This war is a war to end terrorism,” Scindia told reporters.
In the early hours of May 7, India executed a coordinated assault using long-range, high-precision strike weapons, destroying nine sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and deep inside Pakistan in an operation codenamed Sindoor. This came after Pakistan attempted to target several Indian military installations on the night of May 7.
According to sources, over 100 terrorists were eliminated in a series of precision strikes carried out in the early hours of Wednesday. The operation, launched to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed, is still underway, making it difficult to provide an exact casualty count at this stage.
The Indian Armed Forces successfully neutralised Pakistan’s large-scale drone and missile attacks targeting multiple Indian military installations across Northern and Western India during the night of May 7–8. An air defence system in Lahore was also neutralised.
Addressing a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) press briefing on Thursday, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi stated that India’s Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems successfully intercepted and neutralised the threats. She further noted that, in response to Pakistan’s attempted attacks, the Indian Armed Forces targeted multiple air defence radars and systems across Pakistan.
“This morning, the Indian Armed Forces targeted air defence radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan. The Indian response has been in the same domain and with the same intensity as Pakistan’s. It has been reliably learnt that an air defence system in Lahore has been neutralised,” she said.
Speaking about Wednesday’s press briefing on Operation Sindoor, Colonel Qureshi said, “During the press briefing on Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, India described its response as focused, measured, and non-escalatory. It was specifically mentioned that Pakistani military establishments had not been targeted. It was also reiterated that any attack on military targets in India would invite a suitable response.”
“On the night of May 7–8, 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage multiple military targets in Northern and Western India, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj, using drones and missiles. These were neutralised by the Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. Debris recovered from various locations confirms these Pakistani attacks,” Colonel Qureshi added.
Following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 26 people, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor on Wednesday, carrying out precision strikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
