Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the passing of noted writer, thinker and public intellectual Balbir Punj, remembering him as a prominent voice in India’s intellectual and media landscape.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister described Punj as a prolific writer whose work reflected a deep commitment to national regeneration. He noted that Punj’s writings were widely read and appreciated across sections of society.
Highlighting his parliamentary contributions, the Prime Minister said that Balbir Punj’s interventions in Parliament were marked by strong factual grounding and theoretical depth.
Recalling his association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Prime Minister said that Punj worked tirelessly to strengthen the party, particularly among students, professionals, scholars and intellectuals. He also held organisational responsibilities in several states, including Gujarat.
The Prime Minister further said that he fondly remembers his interactions with Punj from earlier years and expressed sorrow over his demise.
