Moderate rain forecast across Tamil Nadu; Chennai temperatures may touch 38 degrees Celsius

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has forecast moderate rainfall across several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next two days, even as temperatures in the state capital are expected to remain high at around 38 degrees Celsius.

According to the latest weather bulletin, moderate rainfall is likely on Tuesday in districts along the Western Ghats, parts of northern Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory regions of Puducherry and Karaikal.

The weather department has also predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places across Tamil Nadu on Tuesday and Wednesday, citing favourable atmospheric conditions for scattered rainfall activity.

Districts along the Western Ghats are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall, while isolated areas in other parts of the state may experience brief spells of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The RMC has warned of heavy rainfall on June 25 in Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Ranipet districts. On June 26, heavy rain is likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.

Officials said weather conditions are being closely monitored as evolving systems continue to influence rainfall patterns across the state. Residents in districts likely to receive heavy rain have been advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and exercise caution during thunderstorm activity.

For Chennai, the forecast indicates partly cloudy skies with the possibility of moderate rainfall in some parts of the city. Despite intermittent showers, hot and humid conditions are expected to persist.

The Meteorological Department said maximum temperatures in Chennai are likely to remain around 38 degrees Celsius over the next two days. Combined with high humidity levels, the weather may feel particularly uncomfortable during afternoon hours.

Authorities have advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak daytime hours, and follow official weather advisories as rainfall and temperature conditions continue to fluctuate across Tamil Nadu.
