Delhi-NCR witnessed heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) retained a ‘yellow alert’ for the national capital, forecasting more showers, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next five days.
According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to experience generally cloudy skies on Wednesday and Thursday, with intermittent spells of light rain, isolated moderate showers, thunderstorms, lightning and winds ranging between 30-40 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 50 kmph.
The weather department said wet conditions are expected to continue across the capital in the coming days, with rainfall intensity likely to vary along with associated weather activity.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Gurugram continued to face the impact of intense monsoon showers, with widespread waterlogging, flooding and major traffic disruptions reported in several areas.
For July 9, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places in Delhi, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds during the morning and forenoon. Another spell of very light to light rain is likely during the night.
The weather agency has forecast a downgrade to a ‘Green Alert’ on July 10 and July 11, indicating no significant weather warning. However, cloudy skies are expected to persist, with chances of very light to light rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning during the forenoon or afternoon.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds over the next few days, as unstable weather conditions are likely to continue across Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region.
