Dharma Guardian | India Japan joint exercise

The Indian and Japanese armies are presently participating in the joint military exercise ‘Dharma Guardian’ at the Mahajan field firing ranges in Rajasthan.

Integral to this exercise is the incorporation of yoga, emphasizing its role in improving both physical and mental well-being. Troops from both contingents actively engaged in various training exercises, including navigating obstacle courses and conducting combat shooting drills.

What is Dharma Guardian?

This annual exercise, alternately conducted in India and Japan, involves a contingent of 40 personnel on each side. The Japanese contingent is represented by troops from the 34th Infantry Regiment, while the Rajputana Rifles battalion represents the Indian Army contingent.

This joint endeavor signifies a deepening of military cooperation, highlighting the commitment to enhancing interoperability and mutual understanding. The training encompasses building capabilities in counter-terrorism and disaster response scenarios.

Dharma Guardian serves as a platform for the exchange of best practices, fostering trust and camaraderie between the Indian and Japanese armed forces. Through collaborative training initiatives, both nations aim to strengthen regional stability, contributing to peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

As troops undergo rigorous training at the Mahajan field firing ranges, the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries continue to strengthen, paving the way for an enhanced strategic partnership in the years ahead.

A recent Ministry of Defence press release stated, “Exercise Dharma Guardian will enable the two sides to share best practices in tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting tactical operations. The exercise will also facilitate the development of interoperability, bonhomie, and camaraderie between troops on both sides, enhancing the level of defence cooperation and fostering bilateral relations between the two friendly nations.”

Dharma Guardian is a two-week exercise that kicked off on February 25 and will continue till March 9.
