The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has solidified its position among the world’s foremost leaders in solar energy utilization, a remarkable achievement driven by the visionary initiatives of the UAE government’s dedicated leadership, as outlined in a recent report released by the Energy Institute Statistical Review of World Energy.

With three of the globe’s largest solar installations, the UAE stands as the sixth-highest per capita consumer of solar energy on the planet, trailing behind only Australia, The Netherlands, Japan, Israel, and Chile. The nation has spearheaded colossal solar ventures, including Shams, Noor Abu Dhabi, and Al Dhafra in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to being home to the world’s largest single-site solar project, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai.
In these monumental endeavors, Masdar, the UAE’s premier renewable energy company, has played an instrumental role, collaborating closely with both government and private sector partners to consistently bolster the country’s solar capacity. Masdar aligns seamlessly with the UAE’s overarching ambition of becoming a global powerhouse in clean energy, setting a precedent for pioneering all forms of clean energy, particularly solar, to usher in a cleaner and more sustainable future.

As the UAE gears up to host COP28 at Expo City Dubai, set to run from November 30th to December 12th, 2023, it becomes increasingly evident that the nation is steadfastly progressing towards achieving Net Zero emissions. COP28 is poised to bring together an impressive assembly of over 70,000 participants, including heads of state, government officials, international industry leaders, representatives from the private sector, academics, experts, youth delegates, and non-state actors, converging for the world’s premier climate conference. The UAE’s role in this pivotal event will underscore its commitment to advancing global climate action and charting a sustainable course for the future.
